Telly Tu's paintings depict fragmented and fractured forms that fluctuate in atemporal space. His work is an investigation of the vocabulary of abstract painting. Tu'u's paint handling combines a myriad of gestures and painterly smears, exploring the possibilities of those marks in poetic space.

Tu'u disregards the notions of binary opposites in his paintings whilst utilising the stylistic painting tropes.

I don't believe in absolutes in creativity, I'm not interested in an either - or proposition , rather what might happen when these painting applications come together. His painting surfaces become the host for the interaction and contingencies for his chosen protagonists and antagonists.

Tu'u explores abstraction, making paterns and rhythms and disrupting those innate in his culture. I am of Samoan, Chinese, Tokelauan and Tuvaluan descent - mixing language and visual language is what I was born into and in turn how I approach painting. Everything that I've seen is up for grabs and part of my painting arsenal.
